Welfare

Since lockdown, our communities have had no means to work or earn money. The majority of our families survive on a meal to meal existence and their biggest challenge now is how they can eat and remain safe.

Community Kitchen

We use food as one of the foundations to change lives and strengthen the community.

Our health clinic noticed a growing number of children and senior citizens losing weight and rapidly moving into varying degrees of malnutrition. We started a community feeding program in August 2020 and designed a system where the children came into our center and ate their food, are weighed monthly receive daily vitamins.

vitamins. The parents of the children attend our cooking seminars and are taught how to cook health nutritious meals on a very low budget so that when their children have reached their ideal weight their parents can maintain their weight and we can enrol another batch of children in our program.

The senior citizens can also learn how to cook low cost meals and thoroughly enjoying meeting together.

Community Health Program

We believe that everyone has the right to receive health care.

For the communities we serve, health care is often a luxury that they cannot afford. Many families self-diagnose themselves and in some cases even share each other’s medicines without consulting a doctor first.

Our clinic delivers holistic high quality, patient-centered health care for uninsured and low income families once a week, however since lock down, we have decided to open the clinic five days a week to extend our services to include a strong advocacy program which helps the community learn about how to stay healthy and caring for their mental health.

Our Clinic trains community volunteer health workers in basic first aid and health care so that they can care for their neighbors. Volunteer doctors, nurses and dentists generously donate their time to deliver vital services for the community, ensuring that funds are spent for diagnostic procedures, laboratory test and medicines.

The reproductive clinics remain closed and those who are open are not admitting new clients, this has resulted in a baby boom in our areas. In response we were able to hire a midwife who has runs a pre and post natal clinic serving both pregnant and new mothers, as well advocacy programs for teenagers.

Community Keep Fit

Exercise makes everyone feel happier and healthy.

Our communities are used to keeping fit and active, and our students and the vulnerable adults take part in Zumba classes, taekwondo, circuit training, keep fit sessions, and weight training in our community center, (we have a large space and can maintain social distancing).

Social Welfare

Our goal is to provide protection and care to children and vulnerable adults

Our team of social workers work with children, families and individuals to find solutions to their problems. This may be helping to protect vulnerable people from harm or abuse, counselling or supporting people to live independently through to managing disaster relief. Our social workers assess families and persons and recommend them for one or multiple of our services to help them through their problems.

Community Animal Care

Animals are Starving.

Family pets and strays in the community are starving. Some of our students have offered to feed the animals if we can provide food for them. It is truly heart breaking to see pets and strays so hungry and weak, many left to fend for themselves. We are grateful for the support and advice provided by our partner the Phoenix Legacy of Compassion , a wonderful animal rescue charity that rescues and cares for as many strays as they can. Safety for Homes

Fathers repair homes for vulnerable families.

There are senior citizens and single mothers with young children whose homes are in desperate need of repair especially after the two big typhoons that hit Manila in November 2020.

Some of the fathers in the community and Noli our maintenance officer, are providing their services to help families typhoon proof their shelters.

Emergency Relief

We will continue to respond to community disasters, although since lock down the majority of our work has been providing relief aid such as meals and shelter, supporting families during the death of a loved one or the provision of repairs to destroyed shanties.
